Middlewood Driving Test Centre is one of Sheffield’s two DVSA practical driving test centres, located on Middlewood Road in the northwest of the city. It serves learners from north and west Sheffield postcodes including S6, S5, S4, S3, S10, S11, S1, and surrounding areas. Middlewood examiners use a range of roads in the surrounding area. While exact routes vary, the following roads appear regularly and your instructor will ensure you have practised all of them before your test date:
The Hillsborough Corner junction — where Middlewood Road, Langsett Road, Holme Lane, and Halifax Road all converge — is one of Sheffield’s most complex junctions and features on many Middlewood test routes. It requires clear lane selection, confident signalling, and good forward planning. Our instructors take every Middlewood learner through this junction repeatedly until it feels routine.

Sheffield’s hills are unavoidable on Middlewood test routes. Heavygate Road, Springvale Road, and sections of Walkley all involve gradient junctions where you’ll need a confident hill start in live traffic.
