What Is Pass Plus?

Pass Plus is a DVSA-recognised practical training course designed for newly qualified drivers. It helps you build confidence and develop skills beyond what is covered in the standard driving test — particularly in situations you may not have encountered during your lessons, such as motorway driving, night driving, and driving in adverse weather conditions.

The course is delivered by DVSA-registered Pass Plus instructors and consists of six modules. There is no test at the end — your instructor assesses your progress throughout and issues a Pass Plus certificate upon successful completion.

The 6 Pass Plus Modules

All six modules are covered during the course:

  1. Town driving — navigating busy urban environments, junctions, and pedestrian areas
  2. All-weather driving — driving safely in rain, fog, ice, and other adverse conditions in accordance with Highway Code guidance
  3. Driving on rural roads — country lanes, bends, and hazards specific to rural driving
  4. Night driving — using headlights correctly, adjusting speed and awareness in low visibility
  5. Driving on dual carriageways — higher speeds, lane discipline, overtaking, and joining/leaving safely
  6. Motorway driving — motorway rules, smart motorways, joining and leaving, lane discipline, and breakdown procedures

All modules are delivered in accordance with the current Highway Code and DVSA standards.

Could Pass Plus Reduce Your Car Insurance?

Many insurance providers offer a discount to drivers who hold a Pass Plus certificate, as it demonstrates a higher level of driving competence. The discount varies by insurer — we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to find out whether they recognise Pass Plus and what reduction may be available to you.

Park Driving School makes no guarantee of any specific insurance saving.

Who Is Pass Plus For?

Pass Plus is open to any driver who has passed their practical driving test. There is no time limit on when you can take the course after passing — it is suitable whether you passed recently or some time ago and want to refresh and develop your skills.

How Long Does Pass Plus Take?

The course is a minimum of 6 hours in total. Depending on your progress and the conditions encountered during each module, it may take longer. Your instructor will discuss the expected duration with you before you begin.
